Altar Guild

Welcome to our Altar Guild Page!

Our Altar Guild serves the clergy and reports directly to the rector or priest-in-charge.

Each of us feels called to the Altar Guild, and we consecrate ourselves to this work.  We place our love for Christ above personal feeling, to work together in agreement and peace, offering ourselves and our work to God.

As “God’s housekeepers,” we strive for excellence, particularly in terms of cleanliness and punctuality.

We are responsible for the care of the vestments worn by the clergy, servers, and choristers.  We care as well for the linens used on the altar.  Such care involves cleaning, mending, storing, and laying out garments and linens for services.  We look after the sacred vessels used in the Holy Eucharist and the furnishings of the sanctuary and the sacristy.  We polish, dust, and prepare everything for the next service.  We ensure the supply of bread and wine, candles and flowers.

The Altar Guild does not engage in fundraising, but donates their time, talent, and hands to the glory of God to provide all that is necessary for the Holy Liturgy celebrated by the priest.

We stand ready to lay out appointments for special services: baptisms, weddings, funerals, visits of the Bishop, confirmation or other services as needed.

We all feel truly blessed to work in God’s sanctuary and welcome those who are called to join us.

Linda Hooks,
Altar Guild Directress
