The name Bartholomew is a patronymic which means Son of Tolmai, so he may well have had another name.  Nathaniel is mentioned only in St. John&#8217;s Gospel and is thought by many to be the same person.  Bartholomew is traditionally said to have beenflayed alive in Armenia.  We will celebrate the Mass in his honor on Tuesday, August 24, at 11:00 a.m.      </p>
