Anglican Heritage Tour: June 2011
An Anglican Heritage Tour of England and Scotland will be conducted by The Rev. Jeffrey Smith, Rector of St. Luke’s Church, Redding, California, in June of next year. We will use the Venerable Bede (c. 673-735) as our tour guide, visiting sites mentioned in his Ecclesiastical History of the English People that traces the evangelization of Scotland and northern England by Irish monks. We will also take in-depth tours of the great cathedrals at York and Durham and visit the Viking Center at York. Sign-ups are needed now in order to make the tour reservations and obtain the lowest prices. Participants may take the Long Tour (ten days), which begins in Glasgow, or join the group in Edinburgh for the Short Tour (seven days). Both tours end in Durham.
Long Tour: Begins in Glasgow, Scotland, on June 13, and ends in Durham, England, on June 22 (ten days and nine overnights, including one off-tour day in Edinburgh).Overnights on the Isle of Iona, overnights at Bamburgh and Whitby (coast of North Yorkshire), two overnights at Edinburgh, York, and Durham, other day trips and stops at sites between the above locations. Short Tour: Begins in Edinburgh, Scotland, on June 16, and ends in Durham, England, on June 22 (seven days and six overnights). The Short Tour includes all the above except Iona, the drive through the Lowlands, and the two overnights in Edinburgh.
To reserve a spot on the tour (or to obtain more information), write Fr. Jeffrey Smith (email: frjeff1@questoffice.net) or phone him at 530-339-0156. A deposit will be requested before Sept. 1.
UPDATE! This is the final week for APCK sign-ups, after which the tour will be open to other churches and the public.
